Thats all for now, until next time keep smiling, cheers Gillian.
Well Blackberie, Fruitie and Fiesta have calved on the 3rd and 6th and 11th of May so we only have Caliesha left to calve now. This means we can go out for the afternoon on a Sunday without worrying about the girls so much. We really do not have much in the way of calving problems to worry about but I have found the minute you get complacent is when problems start. Anyway yesterday afternoon there was a committee meeting for the Southwest Western Australia Dexter promotion group that we belong to and it was held at the property of the secretary (Cath Dowdell) in Collie. Our group is a small, friendly, very social group of Dexter breeders. We started the afternoon in the orchard raiding Cath's trees for delicious pink lady apples, yum, all organic too. Then we had our meeting and organised the date and place for our AGM which will be announced when I confirm the venue. It was noted at the meeting that Bailingup small farm field day which our group attended went very well and we won the stall with the best information. I was sorry I missed that but I was keeping a watch on Delight. Also we confirmed we will attend the Bull and Barrel festival as usual. We also decided to develop a web site for the group so when it is up and running I will post the address here for anyone who is interested. Meeting time over it was time for us to all chat and catch up and show off our calf photos. Cath had cooked so much lovely food to go with our coffee it was so hard to choose so most of us had to have some of everything and Cath sent us home with a plate for later. I must say she makes the best scones!! There is nothing like getting together with like minded people. At the end or the day a couple of cows were traded and bulls organised for service as well as the official business. It was a lovely day weather wise but we were all hoping for rain as the pasture is in a critical condition and may not revive. Thats farmers for you give them a sunny day and they want rain!
Thats all for now, until next time keep smiling, cheers Gillian.
