The grass has dried off quickly and everyone has been busy doing firebreaks. There have already been a couple of cases of deliberately lit fires. We have had some sales enquiries and may have sold most of the animals we can bear to part with. Some of the girls have gone down to the agistment block in Harvey where it is still pretty green. They just weaned calves off them so are enjoying the lush grass to build them up.
Our two little red steer calves are going to their new home next week to live the life of pampered pet grass mowers. we will be sad to see them go as they are real characters. We have had some new editions with a few Wiltshire sheep joining us. One to grow for the table and one to grow up as a ram and a mother with a lamb. This time I will keep them close to the house as dogs killed our last ones while the were in the far paddock overnight.
Well must go it is feed time! I will try and get back with a photo of the new mum and calf
Cheers Gillian.
